Encouraging Community Service and Christian Growth in Your Teen

Blessings Friends!

Is everyone having a super Saturday so far?

I’m without my dear teen son this weekend who is being blessed with a free scholarship to attend the DNOW conference in central Florida. I love to encourage any activity that promotes Christian growth and community service in my teen son. The teens attending this local DNOW conference will be learning to do outdoor missions work for an elderly couple, growing in their faith through Bible Study, group development sessions, games & activities to introduce them to other Christian teens their age, counseling for deeper growth in their walk with Christ, and hearing a smashing new Christian band called BELIEVE.  I can’t wait to hear all about his cool adventure this weekend! I look forward to watching how his personality and character traits will continue to be molded and shaped into a gentle, responsible and caring community servant. Isn’t that what most of us want for our children anyway?

I hope you are finding ways to encourage your teen to get connected at church, get involved with community activities, and that you are all spending some quality time together as a family on a regular basis. These efforts can help mold them into a well-rounded, confident and independent young adult.

Try to encourage your teen son or daughter to seek out the opportunities available in your area for volunteering at their age. You can contact places like the YMCA, local museums, non-profit companies like food pantrys or thrift stores that help the needy in your community. I highly suggest offering to serve together as parent and youth at your home church on occasion. Seeing your active example can be a great motivator for your teen to follow in your footsteps. Set the example and watch as your relationship with your teen improves. You may want to have them volunteer in activities such as serving as a helper in the Children’s dept. at church or assisting with the summer VBS programs. All these ideas are just suggestions. Be creative and help your teen on their road to making more friends, learning and developing new life skills and becoming a stronger youth in Christ. Blessings to you and your teen as you watch their personality and character blossom in a positive direction in the years ahead.
