5 Simple Confidence Boosting Tips

mountains-nature-sky-sunny

We all need a bit of a boost at times. Life brings many challenges, and some of them are difficult to face. We deal with loss, disappointment, and stress. This is in addition to problems faced on a global scale. Though we try to remain positive, there are times when things get us down. We feel ‘less than’ and ‘not good enough.’ During those times, there are a few simple things you can do to boost your confidence.

  1. Accept

Sometimes things go wrong. Sometimes we do the wrong thing and make mistakes. This is being human. Accept this quickly and move on. Work out what went wrong, and take steps to remedy it. It’s not about the thing that went wrong; it’s what you did to fix it that counts.

It’s also worth taking stock and working out why this happened. You can then put steps in place to avoid it happening in the future.

  1. Outward Changes

We all have bad days, and some are worse than others. There are times when we don’t feel like getting out of bed, let alone leaving the house. It can take a huge effort of will to put one foot in front of the other. On those days, try anything you can to make you feel a little better.

smilinglady

Though we know that personal growth comes from within, our appearance is still important. Looking great can sometimes give you the boost you need to get you through the day. If you look good, chances are you will feel better too.

There are many things you can do to present a confident exterior:

  • Try a different hairstyle. There are lots of examples and tutorials online.
  • Put on some makeup and a show-stopping, lip plumping gloss.
  • Wear high heels.
  • Wear bright colors.
  • Accessorize your outfit.
  1. Smile

Speaking of outward appearances, try smiling, even if you don’t feel like it. Scientific evidence shows that the simple act of smiling makes us feel better. Smiling affects your brain, relieves stress, and relaxes your body. It is also contagious. Try smiling at a stranger and see if they smile back.

  1. Encourage Others

Help others by boosting their confidence. There are several ways you can go about this:

  • Smile (see above).
  • Verbal praise for something they have done.
  • Written praise in the form of an email or note.
  • A ‘thinking of you’ card.
  • Asking how they are.
  • Offering to help.
  • Suggesting a quick coffee or lunch.

Encouraging others helps them, and it helps you too. It feels good to assist other people and it can be empowering.

  1. Go Out Of Your Comfort Zone

Trying something you haven’t done before can help boost your confidence. You can pat yourself on the back for trying something that you didn’t feel comfortable with. And the sense of achievement you feel can perk up your mood.

The above are simple, confidence boosting tips to make you feel better. However, we recognize that there are some problems that require more than a quick fix. On these occasions, you may need to seek the help of other people. Either a friend, family member, or professional guidance from a therapist or your church pastor may help. But for simple, everyday problems try the above. You might be surprised by the results.

Make A Difference in the World

Have you noticed the war, chaos, pain, poverty, and suffering going on all over the world these days? Ever feel like it’s just so overwhelming you wish you could do something about it? I do. And I know at least one thing that helps that is easy for all of us to do daily! Pray.

Pray

Pray for our nation’s leaders and our military men and women. Pray for the school teachers raising our children. Pray for the pastors, doctors, nurses, lawyers, judges, business owners, and other high impact career men and women who daily make decisions. Pray for them when making choices, teaching, leading, preaching, and sharing opinions. They have the power to ultimately affect our world for the better or worse by their own actions and beliefs.

Peace Begins With Letting Go

summerfield-336672_1280

Have you ever wondered why on certain days the sky shines so brightly and so warm and wonderful right where you are? Have you ever noticed the shimmering rays of the sun peeking through the clouds as if God is saying directly to you, “I’m here.” ? It’s because HE is there! He is smiling upon you in more ways than you can even count! It’s the simple things in life that bring me a big smile – my children’s happiness, my husband’s approval, the chance to bless a friend or neighbor or stranger, a freshly blooming flower, a sunset or sunrise… and so on. Why do we insist then on fussing so much as moms, parents or spouses about the things in life that really don’t matter much in the long run? It’s in those times we just need to stop and notice the beauty, power and strength of God all around us and pay attention to the hints He is sending us to listen to Him and follow His lead.

I wanted to share with you on this beautiful morning, that the only thing we need to focus on is how we can serve the Lord TODAY, not tomorrow or next year or five years from now, but TODAY – and really focus on WHO HE IS and what HE feels is important in our lives. Getting the chance recently to sell my home and go through the entire process of just “letting go” of something I felt was “mine” was a HUGE step in God reminding me that HIS WILL is usually different than MY WILL. It’s hard as parents, spouses, moms and just as adults in our growing years to think of even considering not owning a home and not having something we can rely on for our children’s futures. BUT… I am  here to tell you there is an AMAZING PEACE that comes when we are willing to LET GO and LET GOD go to work. Even when in the world’s eyes we have something going on that the world says needs to stay in our life to give us stability …. that is STILL just the WORLD talking. It’s not our LOVING, HEAVENLY FATHER who KNOWS us better than we know ourselves and has got a PLAN for our FUTURE that is MORE than we can even IMAGINE! EMBRACE opportunities that come up with GOD AT YOUR SIDE today. If you feel HIM tugging at your heart to do something you’re afraid to try, or to let go of some possession or job that God may be saying it’s time to move on from, just remember … sometimes that first BIG STEP is LETTING GOD TAKE CONTROL of our future. Wouldn’t you rather have it in HIS HANDS anyway? I know that’s where I want to be!!

We are so much more at peace now after letting go of our house and old life and moving to our new city, new home and new life here in a different part of Florida. Are things different? Yes! Is that a bad thing? Absolutely NOT! We are beyond thrilled with all the doors God has opened for us to make new friends, get new job opportunities, see new places and experience new things – it’s all been like a dream. I keep wondering when the visit to this world will end and I’ll have to go back to my old life full of stress and isolation far away from hubby’s work and our church.  I encourage you right now to read Jeremiah 29:11-13 from the Bible. It’s so inspiring to know God is in control and has a plan for our lives! Don’t just take my word for it – read God’s message from the book of Jeremiah in the Bible and believe in His promises. I’m telling you my friends – those promises are true!

Living closer to my husband’s job, and our church family has made all the difference in the world! God knew we would be so much more at peace and filled with contentment. We can invite friends or new people we meet at church to come over to our home for lunch or fellowship after the service every Sunday. The amazing bonus is since we have this new home layout we have enough room and options to entertain more guests and be better hosts! I have always loved creative hospitality and my last home made it easy to do just that. I had no idea God could “top” that set up even more – but that’s exactly what He did! We love our new home and its close proximity to so many things and people in our lives. I wouldn’t have it any other way. God knew we would be happier here. He knew it would make us content. We just had to learn to TRUST HIM completely despite what the world might say and be willing to LET GO of the past and our earthly possessions. I wish the same blessings upon you and your families today. May you find the Amazing Peace from Letting Go and Letting God that we are experiencing right now and may it be a great encouragement to you. Take courage and Trust God for your best future!

I would adore hearing you share your experiences with God meeting you where you are and convincing you that letting go and trusting him even more can bring a brighter future full of peace. Please share with me in the comments or feel free to email me and share your story at love2encourageyou@icloud.com. I look forward to hearing from you! Blessings!

Marriage: Ways to Encourage and Support Your Husband

social-5

Getting married is an exciting life-changing event. Have you ever had the joy of attending a bridal shower and feeling the energy in the air? They are festive and fun, and the bride is always beaming of nervous excitement (or embarrassment – depending on the gifts) as she looks forward to her one true love she will be marrying soon.

Spending a lifetime together is a tall order and each of us should not take it lightly. Life as a married couple requires encouragement and love to survive and navigate that course together.  I have always found it a great idea to share any advice or tips on marriage I may have to these young brides at their bridal showers. Here are just a few tips on ways to support and encourage our husbands:

  • Make his hobbies and interests your priority – be his cheerleader.
  • Give him space when he needs it, but be sensitive enough to recognize when he really needs to talk.
  • Offer to give him a back rub or foot rub while he pours out his heart sharing about something troubling him, or even just sharing about his day.
  • Be creative in all that you do … including being a blessing in the bedroom with your spouse.
  • If you feel you are becoming angry or may say something you’ll regret when talking with your spouse, quietly pray for God to calm your heart. Take a few moments to remove yourself from the situation if you can, then pray for God to help you see things from your spouse’s perspective.  Try to listen and understand what your spouse is sharing through God’s eyes. If you still don’t agree, at least you can try to share calmly about your feelings or disagreement and not act out in anger.
  • If you find yourself in a position where your spouse is acting out in anger and does things that are irrational. Be there for him, but don’t fuel the fire. Speak calmly or don’t speak at all – bite your tongue. Believe in the man you married and love, and know that whatever stresses are causing this behavior – this man you love is still in need of your complete understanding and support when he calms down. Be patient and watch for the right moment to hold him close and let him share again in a calmer fashion.

These tips have worked wonders for our marriage over 22 yrs. I hope they will be useful to you and your spouse as well.

I believe God blesses those who serve Him together in Christian ministry. Serving together can establish a strong bond based on your mutual love for God and desiring to reach others in His name. Try to find ways you can enjoy being a blessing in Jesus’s name together at church, in your community, or simply by opening your home to spend time with neighbors and friends in acts of thoughtfulness. Be purposeful together for spreading Gods love – first to each other, to your children, and then to the world. I believe you’ll find God smiling upon your relationship by blessing your marriage, and your dedication to serving Him will reap rewards for the kingdom of Heaven.

Encouraging our spouse is a big job, but a very important one. It all begins with our own personal relationship with Christ. As we grow closer to God we will understand and see more ways we can share His love and effectively encourage our spouse at all times. Let your husband see the true beauty and light inside you that comes from knowing God – not just the physical reflection of who you are on the outside.

Be your husband’s best friend and delight in discovering ways to support him as only a best friend could. Find what makes him smile and laugh, and create an atmosphere of peace and joy in your home each and every day. Treat your hubby as the king of his household and give him a “safe haven” that he can come home to. This is a place where the day’s stresses can melt away as he enjoys the pleasure of your company in his castle called home.

May God bless your marriage and fill your hearts with the patience, forgiveness and love that can only come from knowing Christ as savior. Blessings to you in all you do together to serve the Lord as a loving, Christian couple. As you set a positive example for others by choosing to show forgiveness, gratitude and love to each other and those around you, may God grant exceeding favor upon your marriage and bring amazing joy.

Having a Bad Day? 9 Ways to Surround Yourself With Happiness

IMAG0675IMAG0811

Have you ever had one of those days when everything was going wrong? Trust me, I’ve had plenty of them. Life is just like that sometimes. I try my best to stay positive and focus on the good things that surround an event or circumstance as much as possible when something is beyond my control. There is usually a good reason for it happening, even if I can’t see why at that time.

One of the tricks I use to keep myself from wallowing in self pity or allowing myself to become too dismayed, is to try surrounding myself with things or people that make me happy. I’ve made a list below that will not only give you a few ideas of what I mean, but it will also give you a glimpse into getting to know me better as a person. 🙂 Enjoy! I hope you can make your own list of ways to surround yourself with happiness so you’ll be well prepared the next time life throws you a curve ball and tries to rain on your parade.

Having a Bad Day? 9 Ways to Surround Yourself With Happiness

  • Spending a moment in God’s Word re-reading favorite verses of encouragement and praying for strength.
  • Calling a close friend, my mom, or siblings
  • Going outside to be around nature and all the beauty God created. Taking time to smell the flowers.
  • Listening to uplifting music or attending a Christian concert. The lyrics are not only glorifying to God and remind me who is in control, but the beat of the music (I like top 40, hip-hop, dance style music) can help you get your energy out if you like to dance, exercise or sing. Try it, it’s fun!
  • Spending time doing one of my favorite hobbies and gaining a sense of escape or accomplishment for doing something I’m good at. I personally love nature photography. I find it very relaxing and hard to resist when I’m surrounded by God’s creatures or his wonderful creation.
  • Having a special snack or treat to cheer you up and help you feel spoiled a bit. Drinking chocolate milk or rootbeer are my two favs. Chocolate milk reminds me of my dad (which always brings a smile) and rootbeer makes me think of home where I grew up in PA and all the wonderful family traditions. For some reason doing this simple thing makes me feel better.
  • Going out of my way to do something special for someone else. It’s amazingly therapeutic! Taking our mind off ourselves and focusing on blessing another is very helpful in remembering to be content in any circumstances.
  • Spending quality time loving on my family. Doing special activities with my kids that I don’t always stop and take the time to do can be very rewarding. Scheduling an evening to spend time as a family is a great stress reliever for me as it forces me to focus on how much I have to be thankful for. I love doing an activity all together such as a family game night, family walk, movie night with something we can all watch together, planning a picnic, or when we can afford to – a day at a theme park, museum or local arcade.
  • Planning a date with my hubby for the two of us to be alone is helpful too. Sometimes our spouse knows us better than we know ourselves and their input can be just the thing to help us feel more confident and cheerful about what tomorrow holds – especially knowing you can get through it together.

Hugs and many blessings to each of you! Feel free to share with me in the comments below what types of things bring you happiness. I can’t wait to hear them!

Loving the Little Things

Medieval Times May 2013 198

Have you ever had a day when you just want to sit back and reflect on all the amazing things God has done in your life? It doesn’t have to be about huge life-changing moments or earth-shaking miracles to notice and appreciate all the good God does for us on a daily basis. It’s really about the little things that add up to making our lives a delightful whole. God knew this when he created us in His image. He wanted us to have what we needed for daily encouragement and reflection to learn, grow and praise Him with. What list of things can you name today that God has brought about to bring you a smile, bless a family member or friend, or simply keep you healthy? We have so much to be thankful for. Won’t you join me in reaching out to our Lord today in a moment of complete thankfulness and praise? Sound off in the comments below and share something God has done in your life this week that you are thankful for.

Romans 8:28 “and we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”

Praising Him Always,
