Let’s Talk Mom: Worries We All Experience And How To Calm The Anxiety

Being a mom is the most rewarding thing I think anyone of us can experience, but I also feel it is one of the hardest challenges we will ever face. The issue is, so many of us can feel alone in the journey and feel we are the only ones feeling this conflict of emotions. The truth is, we all experience worry from time to time and motherhood can certainly make us feel anxious. Which is why I thought it would be a wonderful time to share with you some of the most common worries we can all experience, and hopefully ease those anxious feelings in the process. Children are blessings, yes, but it’s also wise for our own sanity to feel comforted that we are not the only ones to worry.

Health concerns

One of the biggest things we as moms can worry about is the health of our children. Any high fever, cough and cold can certainly send our worry emotion into overdrive, especially as a first-time mom. It’s natural to be concerned as to whether your child is healthy or experiencing something nasty which is why it’s always advisable to seek guidance from a local doctor. But It’s understandable that appointments may be in the future, and the truth be told we would like an answer there and then as to the welfare of our babies. This is why phone applications like Babylon could really help put our minds at ease. Getting answers from professionals instead of worrying ourselves over Google search results.

As a homeschooling mom and one child in high school, I can see why school can be such a huge worry to mothers. From wondering whether they are getting the best out of the educational environment to whether they will have friends in their class. Homeschooling means I can control the environment somewhat, but that doesn’t mean to say that the worry goes away. We all want to ensure that our children learn as much as they can in the most positive of manners. If you do feel a little anxious over this then speaking to other mothers or even the school itself could enable you to put your mind at ease a little.

Their development

I don’t think there is any mother out there who won’t worry about the development of their child. Sure milestones and ages are not necessarily important as each child develops at their own rate, but it doesn’t stop us questioning whether everything is fine. Again communicating these concerns will be the only way to put your mind at ease, every child is different after all.

Our own mindset

What mom doesn’t worry about their own mindset? Whether that is feeling crazy by the end of the day, or even feeling the loneliness that can come with motherhood. It isn’t spoken about enough, and it is so important to surround yourself with positive people who will help support you. Especially on those days where you are feeling tired and drained.
Of course, there are so many other things moms concern themselves with such as our inability to catch up on sleep, or our child’s fussiness with eating, but at least we can all agree that a problem can be halved when spoken about. More often than not, it can make you feel much calmer about the situation. Surround yourself with people who care, and make sure you are airing out your concerns and not keeping those anxieties inside.

Share with me in the comments what your top concerns are as a mom or parent and lets all help ease these anxieties together. Many blessings to all the moms out there!

Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family

Here is a different type of parenting book that would be a huge benefit to many. Instead of finding the typical advice you see in tons of parenting books, this unique perspective is drawn from some of the very principles established in God’s Word – 14 principles of the Gospel to be exact.

After reading through each of the fourteen principles that author, Paul David Tripp, shares so beautifully in this book, I found myself relating very much to the need to apply principles 4 and 13. I think these two are something I can very much learn from and need to remember more often. I believe there is an important message in this book that every parent can learn to apply to their lives and in how they interact with their children.

In the midst of folding laundry, coordinating carpool schedules, and breaking up fights, many parents get lost. Feeling pressure to do everything “right” and raise up “good” children, it’s easy to lose sight of our ultimate purpose as parents in the quest for practical tips and guaranteed formulas.
In this life-giving book, Paul Tripp offers parents much more than a to-do list. Instead, he presents us with a big-picture view of God’s plan for us as parents. Outlining fourteen foundational principles centered on the gospel, he shows that we need more than the latest parenting strategy or list of techniques. Rather, we need the rescuing grace of God—grace that has the power to shape how we view everything we do as parents.  Freed from the burden of trying to manufacture life-change in our children’s hearts, we can embrace a grand perspective of parenting overflowing with vision, purpose, and joy.
I personally found it very cool that singer/song writer Toby Mac endorsed this book about Parenting using the 14 Gospel principles too! You can learn more of these helpful parenting tools and pick up a copy of this great resource for parenting support and encouragement drawn from many truths in God’s Word that we all need to be reminded of.

Take Advantage of Every Moment With Your Kids

Isn’t it wonderful to be a parent? We are so blessed each and every day with all sorts of incredible opportunities to give love, guidance, snuggles and hugs, and at times – even discipline (when needed) to help mold the character of our children as they grow and learn to be respectful members of society. Being a parent is sometimes a tough road, but we need to keep focused on all the joyful, happy moments of being together that parenting offers.

Take Advantage of Every Moment With Your Kids

Just yesterday, I was absolutely exhausted as I went through the day giving instructions, bathing the kids, cleaning, cooking, guiding their actions as they squabbled or argued over something, and tried to help give their dad a fantastic Father’s Day. Somewhere during the chaos of these moments, I caught a quick glance at my youngest sitting quietly looking disappointed and I jumped at the chance to make his day. His favorite thing in the world is to read with mommy. He loves books and truly enjoys learning to read himself as he improves little by little every day! Giving him the choice to come snuggle with me and read his newest phonics books collection from Lego called Lego City Phonics, I saw the beaming smile I love jump right back on his face! These are the moments I treasure!

Give Quality Time and Attention

It is so worth it to me – no matter how tired we are, to give of ourselves – to our families and children – with all we have and offer them the life they always dreamed with parents THAT CARE. It doesn’t have to a life filled with riches, big house, lots of cars, lots of toys, or fancy vacations – all our kids usually want out of us is QUALITY TIME and ATTENTION. Really! Ask any child of yours what they treasure most from you – it’s most likely going to be that you truly listen to them, snuggle with them or give hugs and kisses, play games with them, act goofy with them and make them laugh.

Even Teens Crave One on One Time

Do you have a teen?  Even the teens crave one on one time with you whether you realize it or not. Anytime they try to show you a meme on Facebook they think is funny, want to share a game, trading card, or video on YouTube they love, or want to have you read a short passage from a book they’re reading – it’s all extremely important that you stop what you are doing and give them your full attention! When it comes to teens – it’s also extremely important to them that you love them unconditionally and show them respect in return.

Work Can Wait 5 Minutes

These are those moments – your chance to show your children (no matter their age) that you truly love them and that what they have to say, or what they desire to do with you is MORE IMPORTANT to you than anything else in the world. Work can wait 5 minutes. Dishes can wait 5 minutes. Your favorite show on TV can definitely wait 5 minutes (or til the next week when you can watch it free on the computer). NOTHING is as important as giving your kids the TIME and ATTENTION they deserve RIGHT NOW. If you see an opportunity or are offered a quick moment for snuggle time, coloring time with them, game time, sharing favorite quotes or funny memes with your teen – you JUMP to the chance!

Trust me… you’ll thank me in a few years for all the warm and happy memories you shared and the relationship you have with your kids will be that much closer because they know YOU CARED enough to stop and SPEND TIME with THEM. Our children are precious! We as parents need to recognize those special moments when life can WAIT and our kids deserve every ounce of our attention and love.

Tell me… what are your favorite parent/child memories where you stopped everything and went out of your way to give your kids the time and attention they deserved? Share with me in the comments. I look forward to hearing from you!

Toddlers: Adorable and Resourceful

It’s going to be one of those days when everything my children do just make me laugh or smile. I am so impressed with my little guy right now (age 2) that I can’t stand it. I just had to share. 🙂 I realize most think, “Oh no, the terrible twos!”, but not in this case. This is just plain cute and clever.  I have to admit, mom was a bit preoccupied this morning finishing the final touches on a giveaway that launched, but I didn’t start working on this til he was happily playing after being fed breakfast and getting a diaper change. My six year old ate her breakfast and was enjoying watching a morning tv show. While singing joyfully along to the theme song of her show, all of the sudden she says, “Mom, I can’t believe it! Look at what “G” just did all by himself!” To my surprise, I found a very proud and smiling little guy holding the huge (nearly empty) jug of orange juice in one hand standing next to the dining room table with his Toy Story “Woody” cup next to him with a few drops of juice splatters around it and some actually inside it! Thankfully the juice container was almost empty anyway, but the smart little guy actually managed to get his favorite cup off the counter, open the fridge, get out the juice, open the top and carry it to the table then pour some in his cup! How impressive indeed! I couldn’t resist the urge to fill his cup the rest of the way and hold him close while he drank proudly out of his cup he “almost” filled all by himself. 🙂

I hope this brings a smile to your face, flash backs of memories when your little ones did such cute accomplishments full of resourcefulness, and makes your day a little more joyful whenever your own little ones do something cute today. You know we’ll be able to relate. 🙂 Feel free to comment below and share about your little ones fun and resourceful antics lately.  I’m sure we’ll all get a kick out of them. I know I always love to hear those types of stories. Blessings everyone!
