Reading Rainbow: If You Give A Mouse A Cookie and Other Stories DVD

Now available on DVD – Reading Rainbow: If You Give a Mouse a Cookie!! Check out this fun-filled story book adventure on DVD from Reading Rainbow and PBS Kids!

Join LaVar from Reading Rainbow as he takes you on all kinds of little learning adventures leading up to the reading of some of children’s favorite storybooks! You’ll visit a bowling alley, cooking in the kitchen with LaVar Burton and more! It’s tons of fun on these excursions – my daughter says they are the best part! She loves them!

Reading Rainbow: Starring LeVar Burton

Take a look, it’s in a book, a Reading Rainbow! For over 30 years, this beloved children’s television series has been bringing stories to life. Hosted by acclaimed actor LeVar Burton (Remember Star Trek Next Generation? I loved him in that show!) journey to exciting places and build a lasting connection with your favorite books.

Episodes included in this DVD:

1. If You Give A Mouse A Cookie – Celebrity Reader: Beth Howland

Beth Howland reads If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, the tale of a little boy who offers a cookie to a mouse. Watch as one thing leads to another, showing how actions lead to consequences. Finally, see a domino expert build world class displays. (This totally thrilled both my four year old son and my eight year old daughter!)

2. Owen – Celebrity Reader: Matthew Broderick

It’s easy to get flashbacks while watching Reading Rainbow. Now it’s LeVar’s turn, as he gets in touch with visions of his boyhood. Matthew Broderick reads Owen, about a little mouse who’s very attached to his security blanket and doesn’t want to give it up, even if it means he will be teased when he starts school. ( I was very happy for LeVar Burton making his dreams come true personally by writing his own children’s book and having it published! Now to have the famous actor Matthew Broderick (also one of my favorites) share LeVar’s story called Owen in this video – it must have been a dream come true for LeVar! I love to see those kind of dreams come true!)

3. Two Old Potatoes and Me – Celebrity Reader: Jordan Puryear

Jordan Puryear reads Two Old Potatoes and Me, about a girl who works with her father to reuse two old potatoes by replanting the sprouts to grow a whole new crop. LeVar, working with his daughter, is inspired to make potato dishes from recipes in the book. (Some delicious recipes to try and a lot of fun seeing father and daughter making them together.)

4. Mr. George Baker – Celebrity Reader: Wayne Brady

(Be inspired!) Wayne Brady narrates the story of an elderly man who decides to go back to school to learn to read, even though he is almost 100, and his relationship with his young neighbor as they wait for the bus every day. It’s never too late to make your dreams a reality!

I have always enjoyed Reading Rainbow, and now to see it with my own children all these years has been such a blessing! I really enjoyed this particular collection of shows in this DVD. I hope your family will be blessed by it too. Reading is supposed to be fun, exciting, adventurous and full of smiles – Reading Rainbow and LeVar Burton accomplish bringing that to life within this DVD.

Get excited about your next bedtime story and pick up this great video called Reading Rainbow: If You Give a Mouse a Cookie from PBS Kids and PBS Distribution to enjoy having the story read to both parent and child! This DVD includes 4 classic episodes from Reading Rainbow. Enjoy this together and make reading and learning fun! Available for purchase on DVD today!

Daniel Tiger: Welcome To The Neighborhood DVD + Puzzle from PBS Kids

Welcome to the neighborhood here at Love2EncourageYou blog! I’m glad to have you join us!

Today, we get to share about this adorable DVD called Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood: Welcome To The Neighborhood by PBS Kids and brought to us by PBS Distribution. This wonderful collection of three Grr-ific tales will have your Preschool to early Elementary aged children completely engaged with the video and learning some super lessons in dealing with disappointment, not giving up, caring, encouraging and doing something nice for a neighbor.

This DVD is so much more than just a very engaging video for kids – it has a special feature offering printable activities, and coloring pages for your children to learn with and enjoy! It also came packaged together with a sweet little puzzle of the cover art of this Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood DVD! My kids both had fun putting it together while they watched the episodes.

This video is approximately 60 minutes long and is in widescreen.

3 Episodes included are:

  • Daniel’s Birthday
  • Daniel’s Picnic
  • Neighbor Day (a special double episode)

Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood builds on the legacy of Fred Roger’s pioneering work for and about children. Using the musical strategies in Mister Roger’s landmark social-emotional curriculum, these engaging stories help children develop the key social skills necessary for school and for life.

My little guy was completely glued to the screen and loved watching each of these educational and entertaining episodes of Daniel Tiger. Both my children ages 4 and 8 years old have found role playing and acting out scenes from this PBS Kids series to be lots of fun and one of their favorite things to imagine and play even when the video isn’t on! They both love all the episodes in this DVD, but “Neighbor Day” is extra special and they both agree that one is their favorite – along with the little song in it.

I hope you get to purchase a copy of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood: Welcome To The Neighborhood for your little ones to enjoy soon! This DVD with bonus Puzzle makes a great gift! Beside, great family friendly shows are hard to find – this one gets a big thumbs up from me!

20150215_185410_resizedPreparing your little one for the world of pets, outdoor critters and other animals can be both fun and challenging. We recently bought our children their very first pet and the ups and downs of teaching basic care, careful handling, and maximum playtime has been a true learning experience for both my four year old son and my eight year old daughter.  Watching this adorable representation of Caillou going through both common mishaps and lots of creative playtime with the world of furry friends was a delight and enriching experience for my two little ones. They loved many episodes and giggled numerous times or even would rewind certain parts.

Kids Corner Review with M: My daughter “M” (age 8) shares that she loved the episode called Dog Dilemma because it teaches about how much fun it is having someone new in your life to play with or spend time with. Caillou’s friend got a new dog and started spending all her time with the dog which made Caillou sad. He missed playing with his friend, but she no longer had any time for him. One day Caillou’s parents agreed to watch the dog for Caillou’s friend and Caillou got to see why his friend loved the dog so much and that made him not be jealous anymore. Caillou’s friend made sure she balanced her time more and tried to go play with Caillou on a regular basis too.

Buddy’s Halloween Adventure – Dinosaur Train DVD by PBS #Review

As a homeschool parent, I absolutely adore anything that allows my kids to learn new things, creates an atmosphere of interest and curiosity, and gives them a desire to explore and ask questions.  In this most recent Dinosaur Train DVD release from PBS called “Buddy’s Halloween Adventure”, I was pleasantly surprised to find lots of great educational info and not just spooky Halloween type stuff. My kids were completely engaged and entertained throughout the entire DVD learning about nocturnal animals, pumpkins, gourds, and other appropriate things that would fit in an educational Halloween/Fall themed cartoon for kids.

Buddy and his family take a special trip on the Night Train to learn about animals that are nocturnal. They take a fun nature walk under the full moon where they discover an entire skeleton of a Jurassic dinosaur. They visit a “haunted house” for a spooky party. Then learn all about “Gourd Day” – a Mesozoic Halloween where Larry Lambeosaurus shows the Pteranodon family how to hollow out the gourds and carve faces into them.

Episodes include…
Night Train – Dad, Buddy and Tiny take a special ride on the Dinosaur Train at night, learning about animals that are active after dark, culminating at the Big Pond for a nature walk under the full moon.

Fossil Fred – Buddy, Tiny and Don play “detective” and search around the Big Pond for fossils. The kids end up finding an entire skeleton of a Jurassic dinosaur.

Haunted Roundhouse – Dad takes the kids on a special Night Train to Troodon Town, where the Troodons have decorated their Roundhouse into a “haunted house” for a spooky party. The kids end up meeting a strange new nocturnal creature – a mammal named Vlad Volaticotherium, who was hiding in the roundhouse trying to get some sleep.

Big Pond, Pumpkin Patch – The Pteranodon family learns more about the customs of their neighbors, the Lambeosaurus family, when they are invited for the first time to accompany them to the Big Pond to celebrate “Gourd Day” – a kind of Mesozoic Halloween. The kids see their first pumpkins, and Larry Lambeosaurus even shows our family how to hollow them out and carve faces into them.

I am just thoroughly impressed each time I receive a PBS show to review. No joke! They do a fabulous job creating kid-friendly content that teaches helpful lessons in life, education, and friendship and invites children to want to learn more. I hope your family will enjoy them and get as much educational value out of each episode as we do. A big five stars for a safe, and family-friendly Halloween episode filled with educational value.

You can purchase Dinosaur Train: Buddy’s Halloween Adventure for $7.99.

Looking forward to bringing you more family friendly product reviews real soon! Thanks for visiting!

OLYMPIC FUN with Dinosaur Train: Classic In the Jurassic #PBSKIDS #REVIEW

Competitions Filled With Jurassic Fun

I think just about every kid I’ve met love competitions, races, and simply having fun game time in the great outdoors. The little ones in the Pteranodon family are no different! They are  super excited to be traveling to an Olympic style competition called the “Classic in the Jurassic” where different dinosaur teams representing the three Mesozoic time periods get to try their hand at competing in various contests and races. There’s lots of fun in store for the Pteranodon family and the many friends they meet in this action packed episode filled with lots of Jurassic details about dinosaurs of varying nature.

PBS Films Inspire Imaginative Play

After watching the first episode or two on the DVD, we pulled out all the dinosaur toys that my son has in his room. I had the kids help me make little numbered squares to tape on the dinosaur figures and created a “Classic in the Jurassic” of our own – right in our living room! The kids loved role playing Olympic games with the dinosaurs during and after the DVD episodes had ended. We had lots of fun and enjoyed the “Classic In The Jurassic” DVD even more the next time when the kids came up with even more fun ideas of how to set up their dino figures for the movie. 🙂

I always love to support educational products. As a homeschooling mom, I choose carefully what my kids view on TV. PBS films never disappoint. Five stars from this family!

Dinosaur train: Classic In The Jurassic is available for purchase for $9.99.

Episodes include…
Classic in the Jurassic: Turtle and Theropod Race
Hungry, Hungry Carnivores
Classic in the Jurassic: Air Obstacle Race
King & Crystal Live!

Kids Learn All Sorts of Math Concepts

What an adorable and thoroughly entertaining children’s animated DVD! “Peg + Cat: Chickens On The Loose And Other Really Big Problems ” by PBS KIDS  is a fun, witty and educational show that leaves both kids and adults laughing and singing along to the show.

101A_PEG CAT_TheChickenProblem

What’s so special about Peg + Cat: Chickens On The Loose And Other Really Big Problems? For starters, kids learn all sorts of math concepts in a fun sing-a-long sort of way while watching Peg + Cat dance a jig, chase chickens and other silly antics. My children are big on singing and dancing and they ADORE this show! It’s also filled with humor and clever visual comedy that bring a smile throughout the video. The appeal with this cartoon is so contagious, even I can’t help laughing and finding myself absorbed into the Peg + Cat show too. If you have little ones that love to learn, enjoy a good laugh and find cats, pigs, chickens, dinosaurs, pirates and giants to be interesting characters to watch – then make sure to pick up your copy of Peg + Cat on DVD when it releases in September! Watch this cute clip below to take a sneak peak!

My favorite part of this great children’s DVD would be all the fantastic math lessons that are so cleverly introduced, repeated and summarized by the time the episode wraps up at the end. Your children will learn counting into the teen digits, counting to 100, proper size, addition facts to 10, counting backwards by 5’s, skip counting by twos, geometric shapes, learning to count floors/levels in a building, lengths, problem solving skills, and so much more! It is a series of helpful math lessons all packaged into one super fun video learning experience! Just like PBS KIDS to create such a phenomenal children’s program that is not only lots of fun, but full of educational value that parents and teachers can approve of.

My family gives Peg + Cat: Chickens On The Loose And Other Really Big Problems DVD a 5 Star rating for family fun and educational value in math, problem solving, and the value of friendship. Not to mention it’s really funny! 🙂

My kids say their favorite part is when Peg sings, “I’ve got chickens all over me”. lol. She literally has a ton of little chicks sitting on her head and shoulders in that scene. So cute!

PEG + CAT: CHICKENS ON THE LOOSE AND OTHER REALLY BIG PROBLEMS” will be available on September 9, 2014. The DVD run time is approximately 100 minutes and its SRP is $12.99. In addition to featuring eight fun-filled stories, the DVD also includes special features – printable coloring pages and activities.

Wild Kratts: Rainforest Rescue – PBS KIDS Hit a Home Run!

Wild Kratts: Rainforest Rescue – PBS KIDS Hit a Home Run!

Product Review: Wild Kratts Rainforest Rescue

Full movie review by Rebecca (and her daughter) at Love2EncourageYou. I received a free copy of the movie from PBS to review.

Wild Kratts Rainforest Rescue on dvd is a super packed educational cartoon with lots of fun, thrills and wild moments!

Overview: My six year old daughter was completely glued to the screen during this volume of the Wild Kratts: Rainforest Rescue. When it was over, she shouted, “That was awesome! This is my favorite movie ever!” She begged me to let her keep the movie, and I said of course you can keep it. She jumped up and hugged the case! Lol. 🙂 I guess that means this one’s a real winner in her eyes!

What did you like the most about this movie? Answer from my 6 year old: I liked seeing all the new animals, watching them rescue the animals and seeing them wear outfits to turn into the animals. She also really enjoys the music – she keeps singing the theme song. It’s a very catchy tune.

What new info did you learn? Answer from my 6 year old: First I learned how the animals can help different places in this Earth. When the sloth goes to the bathroom, another smaller creature comes by and lays orange eggs on it and it helps grow a new tree. I also learned that when you help animals you are also helping to save the world. I loved learning how black jaguars disappear in the shadows. If you try to look at a black jaguar they look back at you in a special secret way cause they are hiding.

In my personal opinion: I’m quite impressed with this entire series from the Kratt brothers called the Wild Kratts. I raised my 15 year old son on the Zaboomafoo series of animal learning shows with the Kratt brothers years ago. I’m delighted to see them still creating fabulous entertainment and educational viewing for both young and old alike. From a homeschool parent’s perspective, I’d give this a five star rating for sure. From a mom perspective, it still has the lure and draw for attention that any other cartoon full of animals, catchy theme songs and funny moments would offer. The Kratt brothers and PBS KIDS hit a home run with this one!  As my daughter says, “The Wild Kratts are awesome! They rock!”

The run time of the DVD is 50 minutes and the DVD SRP is $9.99. Additional WILD KRATTS DVDs are available from PBS Distribution including “LOST AT SEA,” “JUNGLE ANIMALS” and others.

Don’t forget to check out my review on The Wild Kratts: Lost At Sea!

Kids Love the Movie – Wild Kratts: Lost At Sea

Kids Love the Movie – Wild Kratts: Lost At Sea

Full movie review by Rebecca at Love2EncourageYou. I received a copy for review from PBS.

I’m going to present this wonderful children’s movie from PBS KIDS to you from the eyes of my six year old daughter who absolutely adored watching it again and again. Her two year old brother loved it too.

What did you love about the show? Answer from my six year old daughter: I love learning about all the sea animals like the dolphins and how they speak, the blow fish, and the Kratt brothers being silly. One of the Kratt brothers is really funny all the time. I think his name is Chris. He played a joke on one of the girls in the show. It was so funny.

What new things did you learn from this show? Answer from my six year old daughter: I learned about the blow fish and what their defense is, who eats them, and that their defense is really strong. Their defense makes them really puffy and they can blow up into a big ball. I learned that submarines can help people go underwater and explore, or they can also rescue sea creatures in it. I learned the dolphin’s enemy is the shark.

Do you think other kids would like this show? Answer: Yes, because the show is really fun. It will help them learn about sea animals. I think they would like the other Wild Kratt shows too to help them learn all about the animals and how they do stuff.

*In my observations while my family watched this movie, my six year old was completely engaged and learning while she watched the show, singing and dancing along to the music, and laughing many times throughout. My two year old was very intrigued and came and sat close to the TV to watch it too and would point to things on the screen. My teen son even wandered in wondering what they were watching and sat down to join them for a bit! Here is a quick look at today’s review team!

IMAG2993 IMAG2463 IMAG2968

You can also check out the games and activities at PBSKIDS.org for the Wild Kratts. My daughter LOVES their entertaining games on that site.

This episode called Wild Kratts: Lost At Sea is very cool if you like learning about undersea creatures and machinery. The Kratt brothers put on unique gear and costumes to help them relate to the sea creatures. The kids become absorbed in the drama of the action and rescue scenes when the natural enemies of some of the underwater creatures are in the picture. This is mainly a cartoon, but is full of fun and lots of educational value. I would highly recommend it to any family of young children ages 2-12. Great for homeschooling too – works with science curriculum.

Disclosure: I received a copy of this dvd for the purpose of a review. My opinions are my own and may differ from your own. I only share reviews on items I feel are of benefit or value to my readers.

Many blessings,
